Matt Carpenter Named To 2016 NL All-Star Team

The starting position players, reserves and pitchers for the 87th All-Star Game presented by MasterCard, set for July 12 at Petco Park in San Diego, are being revealed live on ESPN, prior to the broadcast of the Pirates-Cardinals game.

In a season marred by inconsistency, Matt Carpenter has been solid rock in choppy waters for the Cardinals. The 30-year-old leadoff man was rewarded for his performance Tuesday, being selected for the National League All-Star team.

In previous seasons, St. Louis Cardinals players split the cost of a private jet to get them all to the All-Star Game. This season, Matt Carpenter’s only company on the way to San Diego could be his wife and 2-month-old daughter.
