Randal Grichuk, Mike Trout Cross Paths Again; Carlos Martinez Set For Saturday; Aledmys Diaz Gets Defensive; Matt Holliday Still Option At First Base;

At one point during a pause in action, late in Tuesday’s game at Angels Stadium, Randal Grichuk stood in the Cardinals’ dugout and made eye contact with Angels center fielder Mike Trout. He didn’t have to say a word for Trout to know the question.

It has been nearly a month since Matt Holliday started a game at first base and yet there he was Wednesday, just as he is most days, taking grounders at first and trying to become more familiar with the new position. Matheny stressed that Holliday remains “a viable option” — a catchphrase popularized during spring training — at first base, and that other reasons have worked against him getting more starts there.
