David Freese Fits With The Pirates

There was no official save in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 4-1 season-opening victory over the Cardinals on Sunday. But Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said Pirates third baseman David Freese, the hero of the 2011 World Series for the Cardinals, deserved a “partial save” for snatching a short hop to his left off the bat off Jedd Gyorko with the bases loaded and two out in the sixth inning and turning it into a forceout at second.
