The first official drill for Cardinals pitchers and catchers was Feb.19 but not only were many of the batterymen here before that, so were many of the position players. With that in mind and pleased with his club’s attitude and effort early in spring training, manager Mike Matheny gave the club a day off Tuesday although he was on hand here himself, briefly, as were a couple of minor league prospects.
