Lefthander Tim Cooney, a candidate for a Cardinals bullpen spot or even a starting spot if one of their five veterans goes down, has not participated in the first two days of pitchers’ practice to hitters as he tries to strengthen an “achy” throwing arm, as manager Mike Matheny made reference Thursday morning.
