In Bigger Picture, Cardinals Need An Outfielder

If everyone stays healthy, and if left fielder Matt Holliday can produce a solid bounce-back season from an injury-torn 2015, the Cardinals should be good to go in their outfield for 2016. Randal Grichuk, slotted as the starting center fielder, slugged .548 last season and clubbed 47 extra-base hits in only 323 at-bats. Stephen Piscotty, who will take over in right field, was outstanding after his July promotion from Triple A, posting a .359 onbase percentage and .494 slugging percentage in 63 games. Tommy Pham made a strong impression as a rookie in 2015, earning a more lasting role with the big club going forward. The Cardinals also have Brandon Moss — who will be part of an apparent time share at first base –as part of the outfield cast.
