Not only did closer Trevor Rosenthal become the first Cardinals closer to have 40 saves in two different seasons since Lee Smith had three straight more than 20 years ago, Rosenthal is believed to be the third youngest reliever to have back-to-back 40 save seasons anywhere.

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak, reviewing recent medical news, confirmed that outfielder Jon Jay (sore left wrist) would report on Friday to Reno, Nev., where Class AAA Memphis is playing. But Jay might not necessarily start playing games Friday, depending on how he felt Thursday following three days of batting practice here at Chase Field.
