When spring training began for the Cardinals, Carlos Martinez, Jaime Garcia and Marco Gonzales were presumed the candidates to fill the final spot in the rotation. When camp was over, Martinez had that spot. Garcia had gone on the disabled list with minor arm trouble and would have a spot later after Adam Wainwright went down with a torn Achilles tendon.
