The Cardinals traveled to Pittsburgh on Thursday evening without third baseman Matt Carpenter, who was told to stay at home for the weekend series to recover from what manager Mike Matheny described as a diagnosis of "extreme fatigue."

All-Star third baseman Matt Carpenter will not be available for the weekend series against the Pirates because of an extreme fatigue that doctors diagnosed after Carpenter felt an accelerated heart rate and dehydration over the weekend.
