Cardinals To Recognize Red Schoendienst's 70 Years With Cardinals Family

Shortly after being named the 49th manager in franchise history, Mike Matheny found himself nestled in a duck blind alongside a man who had once filled those same shoes. Red Schoendienst impressed Matheny with his shot that day, but also served as a fountain of knowledge, sharing of his experiences as a Major League manager and offering his take on some of Matheny's new players.

Red Schoendienst has seen some baseball. The Cardinal Hall of Famer played in 2,216 games, managed another 1,996 and as of Friday, has been part of baseball for 70 years.

It was seventy years ago today that Albert "Red" Schoendienst began his remarkable career in Major League Baseball. The St. Louis Cardinals are marking the milestone by honoring Red with a special pre-game ceremony prior to tonight's game against the Reds. In addition, the team is launching a season-long campaign encouraging fans to demonstrate their affection for Red by sharing a video message via social media using the hashtag #LoveRed2.
