Cardinals Celebrate No.2's Seven Decades In Majors

It began on April 17, 1945. On that day, when Albert “Red” Schoendienst made his major league debut for the Cardinals, he went one for three, a triple to right, at Chicago’s Wrigley Field. As a left fielder, Schoendienst was charged with an error when he couldn’t hang on to a slicing liner off the top of his glove by lefthanded-batting Cubs star Phil Cavaretta.
