The discomfort in his wrist became so limiting and nagging that for a long time in the second half of this past season Cardinals center fielder Jon Jay stopped taking batting practice on the field. He would limit his swings to the cages and only take what he needed.

It's been weeks in the making, weeks of asking questions about when or even if Jon Jay would be available in Grapefruit League play. But here we are on March 2, a mere 16 days away from Opening Night at Wrigley Field, and Jay is finally in the Cardinals lineup.

As had been anticipated, Jon Jay will make his Grapefruit League debut today as he bats second and plays centerfield for the St. Louis Cardinals at Port St. Lucie against the New York Mets. Jay has been building up strength in his wrist after an off-season procedure to address a cartilage issue.
