Another installment in the Cardinals’ seemingly never-ending supply of promising young arms, Martinez will open Grapefruit League play with the opportunity to cement a spot in St. Louis’ rotation for the first time. He struggled in a brief turn as a starter in 2014, posting a 4.45 ERA over seven outings in June and July. But Martinez is still only 23, comes with a huge prospect pedigree and a potentially devastating fastball-slider combination, and pitches for an organization that seems to have a magic tough with young arms.
