Adam Wainwright, John Lackey Prepping With Late Season In Mind

Three hours before Lance Lynn threw the first pitch of Sunday's official game, a crowd of Cardinals fans gathered a few hundred yards behind the ballpark to watch another two members of the Cardinals' rotation work. There they found both Adam Wainwright and John Lackey simulating two innings by taking turns facing a group of St. Louis batters.

Before talking to media Sunday morning about his breezy and -- in the grand scheme of things -- only necessary round against hitters, Cardinals veteran John Lacked asked for a moment to catch his breath and get some water.

One pitcher is 36 years old and has thrown more than 2,000 innings in Major League Baseball. The other is 33 and is working his way back from a strained abdomen. He also has thrown more than 1,500 innings in his career.
