Appearing at the Cardinals Winter Warm-Up on Monday, Cardinals right-hander Carlos Martinez looked the same as last year. He appeared to be about the same size, he sounded the same in the interview room and his smile, which he flashed a couple of times, still included a hint of mischievousness.

A year removed from losing the spring training competition to Joe Kelly, Carlos Martinez enters camp in 2015 the clear favorite for the final rotation spot. After seven starts last season— some impressive, others forgettable—the 23-year-old welcomes a chance to cement his place among the starters.

Luchando in Spanish means wrestling or fighting, but Carlos Martinez used it to describe how he gets through the days since the passing of his close friend–his brother, Oscar Taveras.
