Cardinals Trade Sam Gaviglio To Mariners For Ty Kelly

The St. Louis Cardinals announced this evening that they have acquired infielder Ty Kelly from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for right-handed pitcher Sam Gaviglio. Kelly has been added to the Cardinals 40-man Major League roster which currently stands at 37 players.

In a move just before the deadline to set the 40-man roster, the Cardinals acquired their second minor-league infielder of the winter and moved a pitcher to do it. The Cardinals acquired second baseman Ty Kelly from the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night in exchange for righthanded pitcher Sam Gaviglio. The 24-year-old Gaviglio was the Cardinals' fifth-round pick in 2011 and he spent the past season at Class AA Springfield and had a 4.28 ERA in 25 games (24 starts).
