Clubhouse Audio 10-7-14: Mike Matheny, Adam Wainwright, A.J. Pierzynski, Matt Adams, & Matt Carpenter

“Just continue to fight, you never know when you might land something. That’s what they continued to do, regardless of who it is against, and not giving the opposition too much credit to think that we’re out of anything. I think that’s something that is a learned trait that these guys have done exceptionally well.”–Mike Matheny

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright didn’t pitch in the clinching Game 4 of the NLDS, but he offers his thoughts on Shelby Miller’s performance, Clayton Kershaw, advancing to another NLCS, and calling both the pitch and HR for Matt Adams.

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams had not hit a home run off a left-handed pitcher since the beginning of July, but he sent a Clayton Kershaw pitch 386 feet into the right field bullpen to give his team the 3-2 victory over Los Angeles and advance from the National League Divisional Series on Monday night.

If there was such an award as the NLDS Most Valuable Player, it would be hard pressed not to select Matt Carpenter as the winner. The St. Louis Cardinals third baseman mixed up his approach of working deep into counts and jumping on the first pitch as he hit .375 (6-16) in the series with 3 home runs and 7 runs driven in. All total he accounted for 18 total bases as he helped eliminate Los Angeles from the postseason.
