It has been apparent for a while that oft-injured lefthander Jaime Garcia, residing on the 15-day disabled list, probably wouldn’t pitch again for the Cardinals this season. Now he is primed for an operation this week to alleviate a nerve issue, much like the one that hastened the end of staff ace Chris Carpenter’s career last year. And there is doubt whether Garcia, still signed through next year for $9.25 million, ever will pitch for the Cardinals again.
