Cardinals Starting Lineup 7-20-14

There’s no less pressure on the St. Louis Cardinals tonight, just because they have already won this three-game set with the Los Angeles Dodgers. “This is a day-to-day game,” Cards skipper Mike Matheny said before the game. “If you focus too much on the series you could let a game go. You have to keep the throttle down. Today could be the day that decides whether we play in October.”

Besides entering the day with the good news of being back in first place, the St. Louis Cardinals also will have Matt Holliday starting in left field tonight in the series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Now would be a good time to take a snapshot of the National League standings, which feature the Cardinals (alone) in first place in the Central and show them tied with the Giants for the league’s best winning percentage. To keep both distinctions, the Cardinals will have to complete a sweep over the Dodgers tonight — no easy task given that they’ll be opposed by Clayton Kershaw.
