When Mike Matheny spoke to veteran catcher A.J. Pierzynski on Friday before the club signed the free agent, the Cardinals manager wanted to make sure Pierzynski was clear on the opportunity just as he wanted to know whether Pierzynski truly wanted to put the gear back on this season.
