Cardinals Starting Lineup 5-26-14

As everyone certainly knows by now, the Yankees have come to town for a three-game series that kicks off in grandiose fashion with a nod to both Derek Jeter and the Cardinals’ 1964 World Championship club. Both will be honored in pregame ceremonies this afternoon. Fox Sports Midwest will be airing both as part of its coverage.

Doing what would be expected of retiring royalty around these parts, New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter agreed with a question about the shared history of the Cardinals and his pinstripes.

The Yankees, perhaps the most well-known franchise in any sport the world over, are the only organization with more championship hardware than the Cardinals. They have played in the World Series five times, with the Cardinals holding the slight edge 3-2. The most recent matchup came in 1964, a St. Louis win that was commemorated Monday.
