The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Mets 7-1 on Sunday and like the rest of the team’s pitchers, Michael Wacha was on a pitch count of approximately 40 pitches going into his start. He came within one pitch of reaching that total—but not in the exact fashion planned, using 29 to get out of a base-loaded jam in a scoreless first inning.
