Chris Carpenter, the dean of the Cardinals’ staff for most of the last 10 years even when he wasn’t pitching, made his first public appearance Wednesday night since announcing his retirement. Carpenter, honored with the “Stan the Man” award at the Missouri Athletic Club Jack Buck Sports Awards banquet, said he definitely wanted to remain in baseball in his post-playing time and with the Cardinals.
