The Cardinals' search for a righthanded-hitting complement for rookie Kolten Wong has ended with an experienced second baseman joining the club for 2014.

The Cardinals were quick to address their offseason needs after a deep postseason run and now appear poised to wrap up their winter shopping list in full. The organization is nearing a one-year agreement with Mark Ellis, a right-handed-hitting second baseman who can complement Kolten Wong in the Cardinals' infield. It was the last critical area of need the Cardinals had identified.

Mark Ellis wasn't the best second baseman on the free-agent market, but he sure looks like the best fit for the Cardinals.
