Game Three Starter Jake Peavy Could Have Been A Cardinal; Stephen Drew Struggling; Notes

As this past summer’s July trade deadline approached, the Cardinals engaged the Chicago White Sox in conversations about starter Jake Peavy, a veteran the White Sox were willing to move. The Cardinals wanted depth for their rotation and thought that a willingness to absorb Peavy’s salary — he’s owed $14.5 million in 2014 — would allow them to get the starter without giving up a top-tier prospect. Not so. The White Sox requested one front-line prospect, two sources said at the time, or two prospects who would be the equivalent of top-50 players – in baseball.
