With a chance to finish with the National League’s best record and home-field advantage for the league playoffs, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny is starting a lineup including many of his regulars today against the Chicago Cubs.
The Cardinals can clinch home-field advantage through the NLCS with a win this afternoon or a loss by the Braves. Atlanta’s loss on Saturday night gave the Cardinals the edge in the win column by one. If the two teams were to finish with identical records, the Braves would be the league’s top seed because they won the season series, 4-3, over the Cardinals.
