Daniel Descalso, Kolten Wong Still The Middle Men For Cardinals

The Cardinals evolving situation in the middle of the infield remains static Saturday as manager Mike Matheny stuck with Daniel Descalso at shortstop and Kolten Wong at second for the second consecutive game against the Atlanta Braves.

With a win last night, the Cardinals have come out of a late July/early August funk to win seven of their last nine games. With the Pirates playing nearly as well, that has gained the Cards only two games in the NL Central. Don’t forget about the race for the NL’s best record, though — a perk that ensures a team of playing the Wild Card winner in the Division Series. Entering Saturday, Atlanta (77-51) held that top record spot, with Pittsburgh and Los Angeles one game behind and St. Louis just two. That certainly sets up for an exciting final month.
