July 20: Padres (42-55) @ Cardinals (58-36)

In case you missed it, this morning the Cardinals moved Matt Holliday to the disabled list and purchased the contract of Memphis first baseman Brock Peterson. Holliday will be eligible to come off the disabled list next Saturday and expects to be plenty ready by then. In fact, he and the Cardinals anticipated that he would be cleared to play mid-week. But they collectively made a decision to give him a few extra days off to make sure that he didn’t try to push himself too hard, too soon. Also, with Peterson arriving, the Cardinals will no longer be playing one man short on the bench.

The Cardinals will look to beat up on the worst pitching team in the National League again tonight as they play the San Diego Padres for the second game of their three-game series.
