The Cardinals defeated the Giants, 8-0, in Game 1 of today’s split-doubleheader (recap here). They also set themselves up well with the way they did it. By getting seven innings from Shelby Miller, the Cardinals were able to avoid dipping too deep into their bullpen. Victor Marte and Keith Butler each pitched a scoreless inning, leaving manager Mike Matheny with his best five relievers fresh and ready for tonight.
Only hours ago, the Cardinals routed the Giants 8-0. Now, Adam Wainwright will look to repeat the success of Shelby Miller in hopes of getting a doubleheader sweep for the birds.
