Prior to the new agreement, the better free agent players were classified as Type A or Type B based on their previous production levels. If another team signed a Type B player from your team, you were awarded a compensatory pick. If another team signed a Type A player from your team, you were awarded both a compensatory pick and the signing team’s best remaining draft pick.
