Much has been said and written about the Cardinals’ expected season-long loss of ailing righthander Chris Carpenter, both on and off the field. And manager Mike Matheny confirmed this morning that considerable attention had been paid to the loss of Carpenter’s leadership in his spring training meetings, both group sessions and smaller ones.
