Cardinals Sign Handful Of International Prospects

The Cardinals agreed to terms with five free agents from Latin America on Saturday, the first day teams were allowed to sign players who were not subject to the First-Year Player Draft. The moves continued the club's recent commitment to an increased presence in the Latin American talent market.
The Cardinals, who have increased their presence steadily in Latin America markets and peaked last season with the signing of fast-moving teen pitcher Carlos Martinez, signed five players on the first day they could ink players from the international opening market.
The Cardinals have signed 5-foot-11 lefthander Dewin Perez, a 16-year-old out of Colombia, for $450,000.
The Cardinals signed Venezuelan catcher Jose Godoy for $200,000.
St. Louis adds five teenagers on signing day: two Dominicans, two Venezuelans and a Colombian.
