Winner of a season high four straight games, the Springfield Cardinals looked to earn their first series sweep of the season against Corpus Christi Friday night at Hammons Field. Prior to the game, the Springfield Cardinals, in conjunction with the St. Louis Cardinals presented a $25,000 donation Convoy of Hope for the victims of the massive tornado that ravaged the city of Joplin.
Jose Garcia lined a go-ahead, three-run home run in the fourth, leading a carpet-bombing of the middle innings Friday night —10 runs thanks mostly to three home runs — as the Springfield Cardinals completed three-game sweep of the Corpus Christi Hooks, winning 12-4 at Hammons Field.
