Carlos Martinez Shows Stuff At Busch; Quad Cities Stumbles In St. Louis

Cardinals pitching prospect Carlos Martinez didn't win his first game in a big league stadium Thursday night, but he did reinforce the notion that he's the next big thing to come out of the Dominican Republic.
The River Bandits rally fell short under the bright lights of Busch Stadium. Kane County held on for a 3-2 win over the Bandits. The Bandits threatened in the ninth inning, loading the bases with two outs, but scored only one run. Jonathan Rodriguez scored on an error by pitcher Chase Boruff (1). Starlin Rodriguez hit a slow grounder, and Boruff couldn't handle the ball, allowing the Bandits to bring the game within one run.
About an hour before first pitch Thursday night at Busch Stadium, Cardinals prized pitching prospect Carlos Martinez looked like any other big leaguer.
