Stan Musial & His Frozen Appendix
About to suffer through an 0-for-22 stretch that drove his batting average down to an uncharacteristic and unlikely .143, Cardinals first baseman Stan Musial was flown back to St. Louis in May 1947 soon after he complained of an intense and persistent ache in his gut.
