Greg Amsinger & Cal Ripken On The Fast Lane 2-8-11
Greg Amsinger of the MLB Network joins The Fast Lane. Would it make sense for the Cardinals to go all-in this season with it being Albert Pujols' last contract year? Amsinger does not see the Cardinals out bidding other teams, especially the Yankees or Red Sox. At the age of 31, Pujols may struggle to get a 10 year contract as he nears the "magic age" of 35. Amsinger likes the idea of Michael Young putting on a Cardinals uniform. Young is a guy who does not get injured and could add a lot to the Cardinals line-up. If they sign Young, he could go to short and Theroit could move over to second base. This situation would make it tough for Pujols to leave without looking hungry for the money. Amsinger says the "magic number" is the age of 35 and General Managers are not signing players to multi-year deals for players over this age. The steroid era saw players going into their 40's because they could heal quicker and play longer. Click below to hear the interview.
