Cal Eldred On The Bob Shelton Show 2-14-11

Cal Eldred comes on the show to weigh in on the year heavy contract Pujols wants. Cal thinks that Albert wants to retire as a Cardinal and eventually a deal with the Cardinals will be done. Albert may think that he will still be at the top of his game at the age of 37 and that he will still deserve $30 million a year. Several player's next deals depend on what Pujols decides to do with his contract and will set a precedent for what they can sign for. A 10 year deal could potentially handcuff the Cardinals in the future when he eventually declines in production, this puts Mo and Bill DeWitt in a tough position. This is the toughest part of the business of baseball even though the players and the fans both want the same thing. Cal says that the type of distraction could be huge because it is always going to be talked about throughout the season no matter what TLR and Pujols say or do.
