The Cardinals announced via their Twitter feed on Friday that veteran right-handers Miguel Batista and Ian Snell had signed Minor League contracts with invitations to big league Spring Training camp.
The Cardinals have agreed to terms with former Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Ian Snell and 40-year-old veteran Miguel Batista on minor-league contracts that tacitly places them in competition for a potential swing role.
After not having enough depth last year to compensate for the loss of two starting pitchers, the Cardinals moved Friday to ensure the same thing doesn’t happen again in 2011.
