Tony LaRussa Excited About New Deal With Cardinals; Marty Mason Let Go

The La Russa Era will continue in St. Louis.

The Cardinals announced Monday that Tony La Russa, the winningest manager in franchise history, has agreed to a new contract for the upcoming 2011 season, with a mutual option for the 2012 season. St. Louis had previously been uncertain whether La Russa would return.
Tony La Russa will return in 2011 for a 16th season as Cardinals manager, the club announced this afternoon.
The Cardinals have fired bullpen coach Marty Mason, pitching coach Dave Duncan's longtime right-hand man and a popular figure with the team's starting pitchers and relievers alike.
Apparently his message wasn’t getting stale after all.

After saying he wanted to make sure his message was still getting through to the players before making his decision, the Cardinals announced Monday that manager Tony La Russa agreed to a one-year contract for the 2011 season with an option for 2010.

The Cardinals decision to fire bullpen coach Marty Mason seems to be an unpopular one among the members of the bullpen.
