Ask Hall McCoy: Jim Edmonds Numbers Are Nice, But Hall Won't Call

Q Is Jim Edmonds a future Hall of Famer with his 391 career home runs and his brilliance in center field, despite his lack of really big numbers and lack of awards? — Steven, Dayton

A Edmonds is an outstanding player who has committed more acts of grand larceny afield than John Dillinger. Hall of Fame? Probably not. He has 391 homers and 1,197 RBIs and a .284 career average. Dave Parker has 339 homers, 1,493 RBIs and a .290 career average and he can’t kick in the Hall’s doors. Players with similar numbers to Edmonds include Dick Allen, Fred Lynn, Reggie Smith and Kevin Mitchell — none of whom are wearing Hall of Fame rings.
