The young Venezuelan prospect of the Florida Marlins organization, Emerson Hernandez, died Sunday night July 25 when the motorcycle was traveling in was struck by a private vehicle, a few miles from Bocachica, Dominican Republic, location where he has his baseball academy organization of the Florida Marlins.
Along with Hernandez, his traveling companion organization, the Colombian Cesar Augusto Lopez, who has fracture in the femur of the right leg injury which was operated on Tuesday afternoon at the Dario Contreras hospital.
Lopez, right-hander was signed in 2009 by William Marrugo scout and this 2010 in his second season with the Marlins. For his part Hernandez, also a pitcher, had been signed in the winter of 2009 by Wilmer Castillo scout and was serving his first season in the Rookie League in the Dominican Republic.
Cesar Augusto Lopez 18, 1.88 tall, is a native of Cartagena and was signed by their condition to play the ball, this 2010 season, a 1-0 record with 2.31 ERA with a save in six appearances as a relief pitcher.
A police report said the crash also killed the person driving the motorcycle, whose identity was not released. (Translated)
