New York-Penn League
Andrew Moss, Batavia
1-0, 0.00 ERA, 1 G, 1 GS, 7 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K
Batavia's bid for history fell short in Wednesday's 3-0 shutout of Mahoning Valley, but Andrew Moss was perfect through seven innings. The 23-year-old right-hander struck out seven in retiring the first 21 batters he faced. "I was spotting my sinker really good, my curve and slider were pretty good, and they had a lot of lefties, so that helped with my sinker," he said. A 35th-round pick by the Cardinals in 2009, Moss led the Appalachian League with a 1.32 ERA last summer. The Missouri native, who ended his night by striking out the side in the seventh, exited after 90 pitches, 10 beyond his usual pitch count. A single by Moises Montero with one out in the ninth off reliever Jose Rada just glanced off the glove of shortstop Yunier Castillo, depriving the Muckdogs of a historic result.
