Last night I was contacted by the agent of Joel Cayot Gaillard and was asked to pass this along, updating the status of the Haitian outfielder.
"I write to inform you that Joel is now available and free to engage in meaningful discussions with any Major League Baseball franchise. Mr. Sandy Alderson informed our law firm that, as of May 26, 2010, Joel's investigation with MLB-DR has concluded successfully and Joel is "free to sign with any interested Major League team." Furthermore, Joel is no longer signed to or has any obligations to the Houston Astros organization."
I posted a link on Galliard from the Dominican Republic's Listin Diario back in March as he was awaiting word from the Houston Astros on whether he was going to be able to play for their organization and receive his bonus. Here's is another blog post on the past story: Blog Dominicano
