Asked this past week if he put much stock in a player’s win-loss record when it came to having him in the lineup, St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said that can be a tricky and mostly misleading number. What if, he said, a player starts twice a week and for a stretch his two games happen to correspond with starts by Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright.
