Much has been written about the vote for the 2009 Cy Young Award in the National League and this years doesn’t portend to be any easier. When searching for the qualities of a Cy Young candidate or even a Cy Young favorite, it’s tempting for some to go with wins. Others dig ERA. Measures of dominance, such as stuff and strikeouts and shutouts, are popular. Some voters even like fancier things — the caviar, if you will, of baseball statistics, right down to the, ahem, refined palate it sometimes takes to swallow these numbers.
