Cardinals 2010 Draft Day Three

The name Benes may be found again on a uniform in the Cardinals’ system.

Righthander Drew Benes, son of former Cardinals pitcher Andy Benes and nephew of former Cardinals pitcher Alan Benes, was taken by the Cardinals today in the 35th round of baseball’s amateur draft.

It has been awhile since a Benes has pitched for the Cardinals, but the organization made a move in that direction on Wednesday. On the third day of the annual amateur baseball draft, the Cardinals selected right-handed pitcher Drew Benes with their pick in the 35th round.

On the final day of the 2010 MLB Baseball Draft, the St. Louis Cardinals continued to restock its system with left-handed pitchers and middle infielders.

The Major League Baseball 2010 First-Year Player Draft was completed this afternoon. The St. Louis Cardinals selected 52 players in the 50-round draft. Among the Cardinals' selections were 26 pitchers, 12 infielders, 11 outfielders, and three catchers. The Redbirds chose 41 collegiate players and 11 high school prospects.
