Brad Penny is pitching just as the Cardinals hoped he would: Two starts, 14 innings, one earned run, low WHIP, strong as an ox. We have a long way to go here, and Penny certainly will take some hits along the way. But these two good starts were legit, as evidenced by Penny’s Fielding Independent ERA of 2.33. And there’s some value in noting what’s he’s done so far, and how it’s helped him get out of the gate so well.
