Games Of The Day 4-5-10

The pitcher with the best ERA over the last five years, Chris Carpenter, takes on Aaron Harang in the traditional Cincinnati opener. Part of Carpenter owning that great ERA is that he missed most of two seasons, so he gets a lower sample size than the others on the list. Those injuries didn’t have a long term effect on his abilities, however, as he posted a 2.24 ERA in his return to full time duty in 2009. Harang won just six games each of the last two seasons after winning 16 in each of the previous two. He ERA jumped from the 3.70s to the 4.40s as he allowed more home runs and struck out fewer batters.
