The St. Louis Cardinals made an effort to keep left-hander Ben Jukich through trade.
"I gave them a list of names," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said. "But they weren't willing to give them up."
When a deal couldn't be worked out the Cardinals offered Jukich, who they selected in the Rule 5 draft, back to the Reds.
Jocketty expected Jukich to be offered back.
"I thought we'd get him back," Jocketty said. "He's a starter, so I wasn't sure how he'd fit in the bullpen over there."
Jocketty, of course, was dealing with people who used to work for him, when talking with the Cardinals.
Was it strange?
"A little bit," he said.
Jukich cleared waivers. He was assigned to Triple-A Louisville.
