Chris Carpenter To Start Opener; Adam Wainwright Gets Call At Home

While the St. Louis Cardinals are busy making official the obvious call on the fifth starter, they have also revealed how the rotation will work in the first week of the season. No surprises here either.

Manager Tony La Russa confirmed the obvious on Monday: Chris Carpenter will start Opening Day on April 5 in Cincinnati and Adam Wainwright will pitch the home opener on April 12 vs. Houston.

Kyle McClellan's bullpen assignment was only the second-worst-kept secret in Cardinals Spring Training. The worst-kept was also officially unveiled on Monday. Chris Carpenter, who has been on track to start Opening Day since before Grapefruit League games started, was formally confirmed as the Cards' starter for April 5 in Cincinnati.
